Some paintings refuse to be rushed. This was one of them.
This piece has been an evolving conversation for quite some time — layers added, taken away, reconsidered, and rebuilt. What began as a simple composition slowly revealed new directions, new tensions, and deeper spaces within the abstraction.
Through this shifting process, the work asked for patience. Shapes moved. Colours changed. Edges softened and sharpened again. Only now does it feel resolved — not because it is perfect, but because the depth within the composition has finally found its balance.
Sometimes a painting isn’t finished when the artist decides. It’s finished when the painting decides.

In this piece, orange is where I begin — it is my ignition point. It creates energy, movement, and a kind of mental charge. It pushes thought forward and activates the space, almost like a pulse across the canvas.Then I introduce ice blue.
This is where I intervene. The ice blue softens what the orange begins. It slows the eye and brings a cooling effect into the work — not just visually, but in the way it shifts the viewer’s internal rhythm. It opens space for reflection, for pause, for a quieter kind of seeing.
The small elements of green are intentional and restrained. They are my grounding points. They hold the composition in balance, bringing in a sense of renewal and natural stability. They don’t compete — they settle.
There are also small deep blue elements woven through the work. These act as anchors of depth. They draw the eye inward, adding weight and quiet intensity, holding the emotional structure of the painting together beneath the surface movement.
What I am really doing here is building a conversation between energy, calm, depth, and grounding — all within one surface.
For me, the painting is complete when those states can exist at the same time, without one overpowering the other.

What happens when you soften the noise and let the painting breathe? Another day in my little corner of paradise—my studio in Hout Bay at @fineart_africa. I was challenged by the gallerist to experiment, to strip things back and see what would shift after the past few months of bold, expressive work.
I began as I always do—immersed in strong colour—but somewhere along the way, I felt the need to soften it. A layer of white spray paint changed everything. It quietened the piece, gave it space to breathe… and revealed something I hadn’t planned.
This is the result—and I have to say, I quite like it.

My subconscious just outed itself as the real artist in the room.
When I started this piece, I wasn’t happy with my first colour choices — something that happens more often than not. So I let go of the plan entirely and began reaching for different colours, layer by layer, until the composition finally felt right.
Art doesn’t always clock out when I do. Even at night, my mind keeps sorting, processing… comparing. And that’s when it hit me. Photos I took at an event in December 2025 carry almost the exact colour palette I’ve landed on here. Unintentionally. Unconsciously. Perfectly aligned.
Creativity is strange, humbling, and sometimes overwhelming — in the best way.
